Celebrating 10 Years of Black Ops
May 18, 2020
On this day ten years ago, we introduced Call of Duty: Black Ops, the beginning of a series that has meant a lot to us, and one that we know has meant a lot to you too.
Following the release of Call of Duty: World at War in 2008, we had the opportunity to turn our full creative focus solely on making Call of Duty games, a move that gave rise to the Black Ops series of games starting in 2010. While World at War gave us characters like Reznov and Easter Eggs like a little-known bonus mode called Zombies, it was just a glimpse into just how much story there was to tell.
From there, we went deep into the shadows: Call of Duty: Black Ops was the history you thought you knew. It was Woods, Hudson, and Mason... it was plausible deniability, and mindf*ckery... it was THE NUMBERS!... and best of all, it was just scratching the surface.

Together with Activision, today we’re sharing a 10-year anniversary recap – a walk down memory lane that hits the high points of the Call of Duty: Black Ops adventure. If you’re feeling particularly nostalgic, you may want to reacquaint yourself with the original World Premiere trailer. Or for those feeling a bit more brave, head down the rabbit hole that is the Black Ops playlist and explore all of the trailers that began writing a new chapter in our studio’s history a decade ago.
A point that shouldn’t be overlooked is the fact that we wouldn’t be sitting here today if it weren’t for 10 years of support from the best player community a developer could hope for, so: THANK YOU!
We’ve seen some awesome community recaps of the Black Ops story from over the years, and we’d love to hear your favorite memories and recollections as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary. If you have a recap video or testimonial about Black Ops that you’d like to share, record it. If you’ve got a fond memory that you’d like to offer, tweet at us. We’ll pick our favorites and hit you back. Whatever it is – however you want to celebrate with us – we want to hear from you. #BlackOps10thAnniversary
Again, thank you for all of your support!
