The biggest free content drop in Black Ops history is about to begin! Read on below for patch notes on our latest game update, plus all the new content and experiences to expect when Season One drops on December 16th.
Dec. 15 Game Update
Before we get into all the details on Season One, let’s dive into the game update that just went live in Black Ops Cold War. In addition to a new suite of stability improvements and bug fixes across the board, this update is all about improving the overall gameplay experience in MP and Zombies before Season One begins.
This update brings weapon tuning across nearly every weapon class in the Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer arsenal, including much-anticipated adjustments to tactical rifles, the FFAR 1 assault rifle, our semi-auto sniper rifle, and much more. These changes bring each weapon closer in-line with its target time-to-kill for its class, and as always, we’ll continue to monitor the performance of all weapons to ensure the meta stays balanced.
We’ve also made a tuning pass on Perks, Equipment, Field Upgrades, and Scorestreaks. Most notably, we’ve reduced Flak Jacket’s explosion damage mitigation and provided the Field Mic with some new trade-offs, so be sure to choose your loadout wisely going forward.
The team has also improved spawns on Nuketown ’84 in all modes, and made various spawn adjustments and gameplay improvements across Hardpoint, Control, Free-for-All, Domination, Search & Destroy, VIP Escort, and Fireteam: Dirty Bomb.
This is also an important update for Zombies players, with the addition of support for 2-player splitscreen and a host of fixes and gameplay improvements for Die Maschine, as well as new gameplay tuning for Dead Ops Arcade 3. We’ve also implemented some new Onslaught updates to create a faster-paced experience – take a look at the patch notes down below for everything that’s changed.
The Zombies team has also refactored how Salvage and High-Grade Salvage are awarded through Round Milestones in Die Maschine to ensure that all players get a more even distribution of these resources going forward. This change guarantees that 450 High-Grade Salvage is awarded by the completion of Round 20 to all players. At Round 30 and beyond, the rewards are capped at 500 Salvage and 250 High-Grade Salvage. World drop rates of Salvage have been reduced slightly and players should now earn more High-Grade Salvage in earlier rounds as a result.
Lastly, we’re aware of an issue with occasional hitching on PlayStation 5 since this update went live, and a fix is currently scheduled to release as soon as possible. We’re also continuing to investigate a fix for the “Trial Has Ended” pop-up that some Xbox players are currently seeing when booting up the game – in the meantime, please make sure you have Content Pack 1 installed if you’re experiencing this issue. Thanks for your patience while we get these fixes integrated. As always, you can keep an eye on some of the known issues we're tracking at our Trello board here.
Season One Arrives Dec. 16
Season One brings new weapons, maps, modes, Operators, Season Challenges, Prestige Levels, 1,000 new Season Levels to climb, and much more to both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone on Dec. 16th! Let’s get into the new content and features going live when Season One kicks off.
Treyarch Special Broadcast: Season One
Ready for new gameplay footage? Get a preview of everything coming to Black Ops Cold War and Warzone from members of the Treyarch and Raven Software dev teams in this week’s Season One Special Broadcast.
In our latest episode, we called in Raven’s Senior Executive Producer, Ryan Burnett, as well as Treyarch’s Tony Flame, Matt Scronce, and Kevin Drew to discuss all things Warzone, Multiplayer, and Zombies in Season One. We also had a little fun reminiscing on the history of Nuketown with Treyarch’s Miles Leslie and Nuketown creator Adam Hoggatt, featuring the craziest home office setup we’ve seen all year.
Oh, and we might have hidden a little something throughout the broadcast, so be sure to keep an eye out until the very end. Once you think you’ve found it, redeem your code here.
New Free Weapons
Unlock the new Groza assault rifle and Mac-10 SMG for free in the Season One Battle Pass System for use in Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer, Zombies, and in Warzone. Whether you’re a run-and-gunner or a tactical OBJ player, both firearms can fit a play style for any situation.
Get all the details on these new weapons and the rest of the Season One Battle Pass System content at the Call of Duty Blog.
New Operator: Vikhor “Stitch” Kuzmin
Unlock this infamous one-eyed Gulag escapee at Tier 0 in the Battle Pass. “Stitch” comes with two Operator Missions with objectives for both Multiplayer and Zombies, which will unlock four Operator Skins, as well as Calling Cards, Emblems, and bonus XP once completed.
Learn more about Stitch and his quest for revenge against Russell Adler at the Call of Duty Blog, and watch him in action in the new Battle Pass Trailer:
Season Challenges and Daily Challenges
The debut of Season Challenges comes to Multiplayer and Zombies in Season One, offering 20 Challenges per mode across the first 200 Season Levels. Season Challenges are unlocked at every 10 Season Levels and reward players with unique Calling Cards for completing each Season Challenge. Complete a full set to earn a Master Calling Card!
Later in the season, Daily Challenges are also planned for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, with up to nine Challenges to complete each day for additional XP bonuses. Daily Challenges will support a wide variety of play styles across the full suite of Black Ops and Warzone content and can be swapped out at any time, so there’s always something new to achieve no matter how you play.
Cross-Game Progression with 1,000 Season Levels and New Prestiges
Starting in Season One, player progression will be synchronized across Black Ops Cold War, Warzone, and Modern Warfare based on your current Season Level in Black Ops Cold War. All previous unlocks from Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare (weapons, Perks, Scorestreaks, or Killstreaks) will remain unlocked.
Season One brings 1,000 new levels to climb after completing Military Ranks, with new Prestige Levels and milestone rewards to unlock along the way. Players can reach up to Prestige 7 in Season One, with the title of Prestige Master waiting at Season Level 200. The race is on!
MULTIPLAYER
Multiplayer gets a massive expansion in Season One with the addition of eight MP maps, 2v2 Gunfight, Prop Hunt, the new H.A.R.P. Scorestreak, and Combined Arms: Hardpoint this week, with more coming later in the season, including new Fireteam modes.
That’s right – Gunfight makes its debut in Black Ops Cold War in Season One with four new maps: Game Show, ICBM, U-Bahn, and KGB. If you’re new to the mode, Gunfight is a fast-paced 2v2 battle where the last duo standing wins after six successful rounds, using randomized loadouts and coordinated teamwork to outsmart the enemy.
For 6v6 fans, we’re beyond excited to introduce The Pines, our new map set in a 1980’s New Jersey mall, as well as the triumphant return of Black Ops II’s legendary Raid alongside the festive Nuketown ’84 Holiday map, all dropping at the start of the season.
Experience all of our new maps and modes in our new Featured Playlists: Raid the Mall, Gunfight, Prop Hunt, and Nuketown ’84 Holiday 24/7.
Hunt down the enemy team with our newest Scorestreak, the H.A.R.P., which shows the location and direction of all opponents while active. Keep an eye out for enemies hanging back with their launchers aimed at the skies – the only way to counter the H.A.R.P. is to shoot it down while there’s a target on your head, or take it out with an Air Patrol.
No matter what you play or how you play it, Season One has something for every MP fan. Get the squad together for the Black Ops Cold War debuts of Prop Hunt and Combined Arms: Hardpoint, which you learn all about at the Call of Duty Blog.
ZOMBIES
The Zombies team has plenty of new updates scheduled throughout Season One, including two new Zombies modes, new weapon support, Season Challenges, Daily Challenges, Zombies-specific Operator Missions, new Calling Cards, and more.
Get festive in the new “Jingle Hells” holiday mode, packed with holiday-themed enemies, wintery decorations, snowballs that freeze zombies, stocking power-ups, presents that can be harvested from frozen enemies, and special surprises waiting inside the snowmen. Later in the season, watch out for the new “Cranked” event to debut in Zombies as well.
New weapon support comes to Zombies with the Groza AR and Mac-10 SMG being added to the Mystery Box with full attachment and weapon rarity support once you own them, adding new play styles and weapon progression journeys to enjoy. The Cruise Missile also gets added as a Support weapon at the Crafting Table, allowing players to destroy entire hordes of zombies in a single strike.
Starting in Season One, Zombies players can also take on 20 new Season Challenges for unique Calling Card rewards and even more XP, with Daily Challenges planned to arrive later in the season.
For the first time, players can take on Zombies-specific Operator Missions via the Battle Pass, including missions for Stitch at Tier 0 and Garcia at Tier 20. Completing these objectives in Zombies will unlock unique Operator Skins, like the “Siberian Ghost" and “Toxic Terror" Skins for Stitch, as well as Emblems, Calling Cards, and bonus XP.
On PlayStation platforms, two additional maps are coming to Onslaught – The Pines at the start of the season, and Raid later in the season – as well as a Holiday Onslaught event and a new Onslaught Challenge that grants a unique Weapon Blueprint reward.
Finally, we’re replacing the previous “Die Maschine” leaderboard to start tracking Highest Round instead of Total Rounds, so Zombies players can show off their all-time high round records. All players will start fresh on this leaderboard starting with Season One, with all other Zombies leaderboards remaining unchanged.
We know fans are also excited for the next Zombies map, and rest assured the team is pulling out all the stops on the next chapter in the Dark Aether story. In the meantime, get ready to grind through 1,000 new Season Levels and enjoy all of the Zombies goodies to unwrap starting on December 16th.
WARZONE
Black Ops Cold War invades Warzone in Season One with the addition of 30+ Cold War weapons and the new Rebirth Island map launching with the new Resurgence mode at the start of the season!
Rebirth Island introduces an all-new Battle Royale experience to Warzone with intense, close-quarters action for up to 40 players. Drop in with your friends, explore the island to loot up, and emerge victorious as the last team standing.
Season One launches with a new Rebirth Island event as well, including 16 new challenges to earn Calling Cards, Charms, Emblems, Stickers, the “Noxious” LMG Blueprint and more, along with additional secrets to uncover throughout the island.
Two new Gulags also come to Warzone in both Verdansk and Rebirth Island! If you go down in Verdansk, prepare to be dragged to an interrogation room, strapped to a chair, and thrown into an all-new Gulag inspired by the original Nuketown map layout.
During traditional modes later in the season, Rebirth Island Gulag combatants will face off in a hidden arena located under the Prison Block. Keep your head on a swivel if you want to make it out alive.
Additionally, 30+ Black Ops Cold War weapons and their attachments will now be available to use at the start of Season One. Free weapons included in the Season One Battle Pass System and current Blueprint variants will also become available to use in Warzone.
Note: At the start of Season One, a portion of Zombies personalization content will not be accessible in Warzone, including Zombies Calling Cards, weapon camos, reticles, and Onslaught Blueprints.
