Starting at 9PM PT April 21st / 12AM PT April 22nd, all-new Season Three content and updates come to Multiplayer and Zombies in Black Ops Cold War, including:
Get all the details on everything coming to Black Ops Cold War and Warzone this week at the Call of Duty Blog and get an overview of just some of the content arriving during Season Three in the official roadmap:
Season Three launches with a brand-new Battle Pass packed with 100 Tiers of new content, including the badass new Perseus Operator “Wraith” unlocked at Tier 0, two free Battle Pass weapons, new Weapon Blueprints, Operator Skins, Vehicle Skins, and much more to unlock throughout the season.
We’re bringing six additional weapons to Black Ops Cold War throughout the season, including the PPSh-41 SMG, Swiss K31 sniper rifle, and everyone’s favorite Ballistic Knife at launch, with the CARV.2 tactical rifle, AMP63 machine pistol, and Baseball Bat melee weapon to follow later in the season. We’re excited to bring one of the series’ all-time favorite SMGs to Black Ops Cold War with the PPSh-41, and we can’t wait for snipers to add another rifle to their arsenal just two weeks after the release of the ZRG 20mm.
In addition to the Battle Pass content and all the new weapons coming to the game, Season Three also delivers four new Prestige Levels (12-15), two new sets of Season Challenges to MP and Zombies, and new legacy Prestige Icons and the Prestige Master Calling Card from the original Black Ops to the Prestige Shop. If you’ve been saving up your Prestige Keys since Season One, hit up the Prestige Shop at the start of the season and add some new favorites to your collection.
We’re bringing four maps to Multiplayer throughout Season Three, including three 6v6 maps, starting with the new Yamantau and Diesel at launch, and the iconic Standoff following in-season. The massive new Duga map will also come to Multi-Team later in the season after debuting exclusively in Outbreak for Zombies players at the start of the season.
From the frozen mountaintops of the U.S.S.R in Yamantau to the scorched New Mexico desert of Diesel, the action never stops in these fast-paced, small-sized maps. For Face Off and Gunfight fans, Diesel also joins the rotation for 3v3 and 2v2 modes. And if you played Black Ops II, you’ve probably been just as eager to jump into Standoff in Black Ops Cold War as we are. Keep an eye out for the return of the king later in the season.
Of course, the addition of the Ballistic Knife means the classic Stick and Stones party mode from the original Black Ops is also making its comeback! This is one of our favorite MP modes in Call of Duty history, and we’re excited to jump in with everyone in the community this week. Brush up on your crossbow shots and Tomahawk throws, and we’ll see you in the dedicated Sticks and Stones playlist. Note: Prop Hunt is making way for Sticks and Stones in the Featured Playlist lineup this week, and will return later in Season Three with the new Yamantau and Diesel maps added to the Prop Hunt rotation.
The new Strafe Run Scorestreak also comes to MP this week, providing sweeping ground cover and anti-aircraft fire from a pair of jet fighters to the tune of 5,000 score. Try this one out in objective-based modes where you need to hold down an area long enough for your team to capture a zone or shut out the enemy in a particular lane.
In the vehicle department, the all-new Cargo Truck makes its debut in Multi-Team modes this season, also appearing in Outbreak for Zombies players. Pick up the entire squad in this behemoth and plow through enemy teams while your passengers provide covering fire from the mounted turret and open rear flatbed.
For the competitive community, we’ve added Combat Record tracking support for League Play and restricted Thermal Optic attachments in all CDL modes. We’ve also made updates to movement, the Apocalypse and Checkmate maps, several MP modes, and Split-Screen, as well as additional UI and audio bug fixes. Check out the full list of patch notes below for all the details on what’s new in MP.
In Zombies, the action hits a fever pitch as Season Three sets the stage for the events to come in the Dark Aether story. Requiem expands their operations to Duga, a huge new Outbreak region packed with new story Intel, expanded Objective locations and new infil points, the addition of the weapon-mounted Cargo Truck and FAV vehicles, and much more. Keep an eye out for new secrets to discover throughout the Outbreak Zone, including Phase Wall Tears, D.I.E. Machine Wonder Weapon upgrades, a new way to access higher difficulty regions even faster, and the new Fury Crystal event as you carve a path through the Ural Mountains.
Verticality comes to Zombies in a big way in Duga, as players can ascend a massive Soviet radar array tower while fighting off the horde, and choose to either parachute or zipline to safety as a last-minute means of escape. This is our most versatile Outbreak region yet, offering new ways to outmaneuver the undead with plenty of nooks and crannies to explore.
The Dark Aether story will continue to unfold through the new in-game intel discoverable in Outbreak in Season Three, setting up the events leading to the Main Quest coming to Outbreak later in the season. Without spoiling anything, we’ll just say the secrets uncovered in Outbreak will tie directly into the narrative for our next round-based Zombies map – which is currently in the works! – as well as future seasons of Zombies content.
All Zombies players can get their hands on the brand-new Toxic Growth Field Upgrade in round-based maps and in Outbreak at Season Three’s launch, which summons a patch of wild growth to slow and deal toxic damage to enemies. Equip this Toxic Growth to shut down lanes, defend objectives, and buy your teammates precious seconds to escape the clutches of death. Like all Field Upgrades, Toxic Growth can be upgraded all the way to Skill Tier V to deal even more damage, persist longer, and even cause enemy corpses to explode!
We’ve also made some changes to three Ammo Mods with this update to shake up the meta and encourage more variety in gameplay. Most notably, Napalm Burst’s damage effects have now been doubled, and Dead Wire now receives a 25% damage bonus to stunned zombies (down from 33%) in a reduced radius. Shatter Blast’s explosive damage has also been reduced to bring its effectiveness in-line with the rest of the Ammo Mod options. Jump into Zombies, hit up the Pack-a-Punch Machine, and see what you think of the new adjustments.
Dead Ops Arcade 3 receives new improvements this week, including an adjustment to XP gains and updates to the Mamaback boss fight. And on PlayStation, Onslaught players can test their skills against the undead on the new Yamantau map, with more new content coming in-season. We’re happy to see such a positive reception from Zombies players over the recent gameplay improvements and content additions to Onslaught, and we plan to keep adding to the mode in the future. The new Containment mode will remain in rotation at the start of Season Three, as well!
In addition to a fix to unlock two Intel items from Trials in Outbreak, we’ve also implemented new bug fixes for Challenges, stability improvements for Outbreak, and more improvements across the board.
With the launch of Season Three, players will be happy to know we’ve increased XP and Match Bonus XP gains in all Zombies modes across the board, and Zombies players also receive a new set of 20 Season Challenges to unlock and complete for exclusive Calling Card and XP rewards. Reach Level 190 before the season is over to unlock all 20!
Also starting with Season Three, players will be able to complete weapon unlock challenges in both Multiplayer and Zombies, including existing and future weapon challenges. Bring in the new PPSh-41 and Swiss K31 from the Battle Pass into your Zombies loadouts, and unlock new and existing weapons like the R1 Shadowhunter and Ballistic Knife by completing challenges entirely within Zombies!
The current list of ranged weapon unlocks available in Zombies this week includes the Groza, MAC-10, Streetsweeper, FARA 83, LC10, R1 Shadowhunter, and ZRG 20mm, as well as the Sledgehammer, Wakizashi, Machete, E-Tool, and Ballistic Knife melee weapons. Look for future weapon unlock challenges to include requirements that can be completed in both MP and Zombies.
Season Three also brings a new round of weapon tuning to Black Ops Cold War. This tuning pass brings adjustments across the board to the Light Machine Gun class, tightening up some of the areas where LMGs were particularly versatile compared to other classes. The Shotgun class also gets some changes, including tweaks to the Streetsweeper to remove its 1-hit kill potential and rein in its damage values.
We’ve also made some tuning changes in the Assault Rifle, Submachine Gun, and Tactical Rifle departments, including attachment updates for the FFAR 1, sprint speed updates for SMGs, and more. See below for the full list of tuning details.
Later on April 22nd, players can jump into the “Hunt for Adler” event in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone to complete challenges in both games to discover clues surrounding Adler’s whereabouts. Complete a full set of challenges in either game and unlock an exclusive Adler Operator Skin and new cosmetic rewards!
Speaking of Warzone, Verdansk is about to heat up in a big way in Season Three... be sure to jump into Warzone starting at 12PM PT / 3PM ET April 21st to witness it all, and follow @CallofDuty and @RavenSoftware on Twitter for all the latest updates.
