Black Ops 3 – Clan Migration and Groups: What You Need to Know

We’re excited to share that we’ve initiated clan migration capabilities for Black Ops. If you manage a clan or participate in one, we want to make sure that you’re able to move that experience to Black Ops 3. So, here’s what you need to know…

Today, www.callofduty.com/groups went live, officially kicking of clan migration into Black Ops 3. During this open migration period, clan leaders will have the opportunity to move Advanced Warfare clans into Black Ops 3 Groups. (NOTE: You can’t migrate across platforms – you can only migrate from/onto the platform on which the clan existed originally.) If you had a clan in Advanced Warfare, you’ll want to head to the site as soon as possible, because the migration period will only last through May 9. On the following day (May 10), we’ll begin rolling out our new Black Ops 3 Group Beta.

Wait a second – Black Ops 3 Group Beta? What is that?

We’re glad you asked.

Groups (currently in Beta state) adds an entirely new social element to the Black Ops universe. For the first time in a Call of Duty game, Groups offers an unprecedented in-game community designed from the ground up to bring players together. Tightly integrated with existing game systems, Groups helps players quickly expand their network of comrades and competitors. Join a Group of like-minded weekend warriors or create your own to take your clan to the next level.

At its heart, Groups is an open-ended feature that puts control in the hands of players. It’s up to players to create or join Groups that make sense for them. Some common Groups might include:

  • Clans
  • Teams
  • Friends
  • Streamers
  • Classmates

Groups – How They Work

Players visit the “Groups” tab of the Social menu to create or find Groups to join. Once in a Group, players visit the Group Headquarters see a Roster of other members, group messages, monitor their rank on custom Group Leaderboards and check out fellow group members latest Paintjobs, Emblems or other content creations.

Groups – Features

Quick join

The Quick Join is designed to show online friends and let players quickly jump into their games. After becoming a member of a group, the Quick Join will still show all your friends, but any remaining space will be filled with members of groups to which you belong. In many cases this will dramatically increase the number of people players can instantly party up with.

Overview

Your first stop in the Group Headquarters is the overview, a quick snapshot of Group activity. Here you can read the Group message or see the latest featured Group Showcase content.

Roster

The Roster is in every way like your Friends List, however you don’t necessarily need to friend those players. Join on them, check their Combat Record or view their Showcase, all without the need to flood your Friends List.

Leaderboard

Fellow Group members automatically appear in Leaderboards customized with several different parameters. This allows Groups to better tailor the stats they show to the to the purpose of the group.

Showcase

The Group Showcase brings together all the awesome content published by fellow Group members.

Admin

Available to Group Owners or Administrators, the Admin tab provides comprehensive control over all aspects of the group including: privacy settings, the ability to update Group identity and much more.

As you can see, Groups is a fun, new feature that will help players connect in new ways, and we’re excited to be rolling it out for fans everywhere. We’re looking forward to seeing how people use Groups, but for now, let’s make sure that existing clans make their way to Black Ops 3. Head to the link above and make it happen today.
